Edward Lawrence “Buck” Spurr, age 81, a resident of Stoneham, MA passed away on Thursday November 13th, 2014. He was the only son of Edward Spurr and Grace Tufts. He grew up in Franklin, MA, and attended Tufts University with a major in Sociology with a minor in criminology. The Mayor of his Tufts Senior class, he enjoyed entertaining classmates with his hobby and love of magic, eventually becoming a member of the Society of American Magicians. After graduating from Tufts he joined the Navy and traveled throughout Europe and abroad writing for the ship’s newspaper while serving aboard the USS Salem. After returning to the States and to Boston, Buck joined Paramount Pictures as an account manager in the Northeast Region, and married Barbara Wyand, a graduate of Tufts University and elementary teacher in Concord, MA. They lived in Acton, MA, and eventually settled in Wakefield, MA. Following his years at Paramount Pictures, he became interested in the entertainment business. He joined Lordly & Dame, a booking agency in Boston where he became a Vice President. The firm booked concerts and managed entertainers, such as Dionne Warwick, Johnny Carson and The Burke Family Singers. After Lordly & Dame, Buck’s interests in music lead him to an independent career, booking music and theater acts all over the country for many jazz, rock and pop bands. In 1986, Buck married noted jazz vocalist and Concord recording artist, Carol Sloane. Together they were committed to the arts and became involved in numerous projects together, releasing CDs with High Note and Arbor records in the last decade. During the 10 years prior to his death, Buck never stopped investing his time and energy into theater and music, including consultancies with The Stoneham Theatre and The Hanover Theatre in Worcester. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in Boston and New York, and lunches with old friends. Buck leaves his wife Carol Sloane and a daughter, Sandra de Novellis (New York). He also leaves his first wife, Barbara Spurr and five grandsons: Jonathan Spurr, Mathew Spurr, Andrew Spurr, Alessandro de Novellis and Luca de Novellis.
